Langston, Alabama
We had an enjoyable ride yesterday to Langston, Alabama. This area is pretty remote but right on Lake Guntersville. The lake is over 69K acres and is formed by the Tennessee River being damned. We got off the Interstate north and west of Atlanta and began to trust our GPS systems, although we also followed along on the map just to be sure. We were traveling northwest on Alabama highway 35 and looking to turn on county road 67 which would take us to the RV Park. As we made the turn onto CR 67 we saw a sign that said bridge out in 12 miles and 9 miles to Langston.
Since we had already made the turn onto the road we were committed to continue until we could turn around. We drove to Langston and sure enough the sign was correct, the bridge was out and we had to go back. We turned around and drove the 9 miles back to highway 35 and continued into Scottsboro, AL where we caught highway 79 and headed back south on the other side of the lake. We finally found our way to the resort but not before we made another wrong turn and had to turn around again.
The resort ended up being very nice and we have a good view of the lake from our site. When you check in they don’t assign you to a site you just go and pick the one you want, as long as no one else was there first. Mike, Patty, and Tippy drove back into Guntersville to do some shopping while I set up our camp. When they returned we sat out and had a beer and then I grilled pork chops while the gals fixed the rest of the meal which consisted of scalloped potatoes, yellow squash, and a wonderful tomatoes and avocado salad with balsamic vinegar. Well it was delicious to say the least and we all ate way too much.
Today, Tuesday, we slept in a little and then drove to Langston for lunch. The restaurant was about 10 miles from here and just on the other side of the bridge from where we were yesterday. To get to the RV Resort from there we had to drive over 50 miles. We had a great lunch, hamburgers, chicken fingers, fries, and onion rings. We then drove to the Guntersville Lake State Park to look at the golf course. It looked pretty good so we will try to play it a couple of times in the next few days. It rained a little over night and some this am but it is clearing up this afternoon. It is supposed to rain again tomorrow but it seems to be moving out a little early so we might get a good day tomorrow.
I will post a picture of the lake from inside of the coach and a picture of Alex and I that Tippy took this morning. In case you haven’t discovered if you double click on the pictures they will appear larger and clearer and are easier to enjoy. We are considering altering our next few weeks here in Alabama to get closer to the ocean a little sooner. More about that later after we complete our plans, until next time be safe.
