Vinton, LA to Brownsville, TX
We had two days of windy weather traveling to Brownsville. Fortunately both were somewhat short days, less than 250 miles each, but it was tiring just the same. Fortunately the coach handles well but you had to keep both hands on the wheel to protect from the frequent gusts. We stayed at The Lazy Longhorn RV Park in Victoria, TX on Thursday and it was a very nice park. Long cement pads, 73 feet, and some grass between each space. The place was full and then some with at least 5 units parked on the driveway area.
On Friday we headed to Brownsville where we will stay for a week. We chose the Rio RV Park based on the Woodall's rating, 4 W, but it is lacking in atmosphere. It is not lacking in guests though as they are stacked in everywhere and the spots are pretty tight. Our spot isn't too bad but it is a back-in and it took a while to get it in the spot. We have a tree right over the satellite dome so we don't get any satellite TV but fortunately the park has good cable with over 70 channels, even some in spanish if you can imagine. The folks that work here are very friendly and we have met some other guests as well. I am sure we will be just fine here.
We drove around a little bit today in the rain. We looked at three other RV parks in the area and none of them looked any better than where we are. We also looked at an ownership park, River Bend, that is built around a golf course and is right on the Rio Grande River. We drove around the property a little but it wasn't anything we would be interested in, other than maybe for a 2-3 week rental. It rained for most of the day, never too hard, but pretty steadily. We made a stop at a Super Walmart to pick up a few things and headed back to the coach to relax and watch a little TV. Alex and I watched golf in the bedroom and took a short nap while Tippy played on the computer and took a nap on the euro chair. We found a church for Tippy for tomorrow morning and we have arranged to have a guy come to wash and detail the coach on Sunday afternoon.
The weather.com site is predicting rain for the next few days here so I don't know how much we will be able to do. We want to travel down to Padre Island, go to the zoo, and take in a movie or two. I guess the movies and Padre Island can happen in the rain so we will start there on Monday. I will try to get a couple of pictures tomorrow along with any other updates that come to mind. In the meantime, be safe.
