Kanab, Utah
We had a wonderful time in Kanab with a couple of rounds of golf, several great meals, and some relaxation time as well. In addition Tippy went to the local hospital where they took x-rays which showed no disc damage but some arthritic build-up at L-5 on her lower spine. The doctor gave her some new meds that seem to be effective and she is feeling some better. Just knowing there is no disc damage provides a great sense of relief.
We played golf at the Corral Cliffs G.C. in Kanab and we were surprised to find that my old neighbor Mike Scholian was behind the counter. He and his partners have bought the course and 700 additional acres that will be developed into homesites and a second nine holes. They will officially take over the course November 1st and they will close it for about 16 months while they redo the front nine, re-route some of the holes, and build the second nine. Mike was very gracious and allowed us to play for free for two days. he even joined us for nine holes on Tuesday.
We also visited the Best Friends animal sanctuary, the countries largest, which houses over 1500 animals. We watched a film about the goals of Best Friends and took a 90 minute van tour of their facilities. We were truly impressed with the quality of the facilities and the numbers as well. They have mostly dogs and cats but also horses, pot belly pigs, rabbits, birds, goats, peacocks, etc. The facility uses a lot of volunteer help to walk the animals, clean their facilities, and other jobs that help to keep the animals healthy and happy. They have over 3500 members that donate from $25 to $1 million dollars a year to the project. Their long range goal is to have no homeless dogs or cats.
We enjoyed the 4th of July with some golf, a barbeque of hotdogs and hamburgers, and finished with a tremendous fireworks display that we were able to watch right from our RV Park. On Wednesday we headed to Bryce Canyon where we will stay for three days but I am getting ahead of myself so enjoy the pictures and be safe.
