Bandon, Oregon
We had a wonderful trip Monday on highway 42 from Roseburg, OR to highway 101 near Coos Bay, OR. From there we headed south to Bandon, OR. We had a nice spot at the Bandon by the Sea RV Park and we enjoyed our four days there. On Tuesday Tippy and I drove to Bandon Dunes to look around a bit and to have lunch. We ate at the new restaurant at Pacific Dunes which is on top of the golf shop. There were views of many holes on the course and we also had a great lunch.
On Wednesday I played the new Old Macdonald course. The course from tee to green was incredible but the green configurations were over the top. I have never seen such large greens, a couple over 80 yards deep, with some much undulation in them. On some holes I was wondering "where is the windmill?" You could hit two good shots on a par four and easily walk away with a six, as I did on a few occasions. You could not tell where the greens started and the fairway ended as it was all the same grass cut to the same height. Some of the views were also spectacular as you played through, over, and around the dunes. We had a good view of the ocean from the 8th green and the 15th green but the rest of the course was inside of the main dune line along the shore.
We met our friends Jim and Lynn Magette, from Colorado, and had dinner on Thursday evening. Jim was there for the APL Championship which starts next Monday. We went to the Wheelhouse in Old Town Bandon and had some wonderful seafood. We had a cocktail and caught up on some things and then ate while we discussed some other things, and then finished a bottle of wine while we picked up all of the loose ends. When we were done we looked around and everyone was gone but us. It was 9:50 PM and the restaurant closed at 9:00. We were pretty embarrassed but said our apologies and went on our way.
On Friday, yesterday, we drove down toe coast to Gold Beach, 56 mile drive, and then up the Rogue River to Kimball Creek Bend RV Resort. Our site looks right out on the river and the scenery is just beautiful! I was supposed to fish while we were here but the guide said that fishing was very poor so we decided not to go. Now I may play golf at a small course up in the mountains called Cedar Bend, I think.
We will be here until Tuesday when we will head back up the coast to Florence. We will be there for three days and then we will be off to Lebanon. Enjoy the pics and be safe.
