Stu & Tippy's Travels

This Blog will be used to document the travels of Stuart and Tippy Reid as we travel this beautiful country in our motorhome. We will hopefully be able to share our experiences in words and pictures and allow our friends and family to enjoy them with us.

Little Mountain RV Resort

Little Mountain RV Resort has been a great place to stay. It is out in the country, about 15 miles from Guntersville, AL, but the quiet and beauty of the lake more than make up for the remoteness. Mike discovered a golf course in the state park nearby and we have played golf for the past three days. The course is beautiful! It has been cut out of the forest and is very undulating with elevation changes on literally every hole. Most green are also elevated and soft in front, which was a real problem for short hitters like me. If you didn’t carry the ball onto the green it stayed short and then you were faced with a chip to an elevated green with Bermuda grass that was somewhat bumpy.

On Thursday I bogied the first twelve holes and then played the last six holes only one over. I hit two greens in regulation out of the first twelve and three putted both of them. My stellar play the last six holes allowed me to separate Mike from $8 to go with the $2 I won on Wednesday and the $4 I won on Friday. My only problem now is that I only receive four shots from Mike and I am now vulnerable for a gigantic loss. We probably won’t play again until we return to Birmingham so I will be able to hold onto the money for a few days at least.

We have made some revisions to our schedule here in Alabama and will now eliminate several of the smaller towns we were going to visit, mostly for the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail locations. We will stay here for an extra day, we paid the weekly rate so it doesn’t cost us anything, and then head back to Birmingham for a weeks stay. We will get Alex spayed while there and maybe play a little golf. My friend Rick, from The View report, sent me an e-mail today saying that his girlfriend Cindy has a pontoon boat and wondered if we would like to go fishing on the Alabama River. My response was yes so we are waiting to see if Cindy’s schedule will allow her some time for the outing.

From Birmingham we will go directly to the Gulf where we will stay in Gulf State Park, which also has a golf course. They have only 91 units refurbished from the hurricane and I am not sure about the condition of the golf course but hopefully they have it in some kind of playable condition. We will look at a couple of other parks that are near the gulf and may stay in one or two before we move to the Gulf Breeze RV Resort on May 5th. We will stay at Gulf Breeze for a week and then go to Lafayette, LA, Cajun country, for three nights before meeting Jackie and Jerry in New Orleans on May 15th.

We continue to eat and drink well and enjoy our days. We went to Guntersville for cocktails and dinner last evening and it was just okay. On Thursday we grilled steaks and they were great! Tonight we will go to Ma & Pa Vittles for dinner. This is a restaurant on the property here and it is only open on the weekends this time of year. The menu includes meatloaf, pork roast, beans, corn, bread, salad, and desert for $5 per person. If nothing else the price is right.

On Sunday Tippy and Patty will got to 11:00 mass and Mike and I will meet them at a Chinese restaurant for lunch at 12:15 or so. After lunch we will go to Wal-Mart and get some stuff we need and be prepared to head for Birmingham in the morning. This is only a 120-mile trip so we will leave late morning and arrive in early afternoon. More later from Birmingham so in the meantime be safe.
