Stu & Tippy's Travels

This Blog will be used to document the travels of Stuart and Tippy Reid as we travel this beautiful country in our motorhome. We will hopefully be able to share our experiences in words and pictures and allow our friends and family to enjoy them with us.

Off to Marathon, ON and points east

We will leave later this morning for Marathon, ON after a wonderful week here in the Thunder Bay area. We enjoyed our last day by doing laundry, going to lunch at the restaurant in Chrystal Beach which is a short distance east of here, and then visiting historic Fort William which is on the Kaministiquia River. I believe this is the same river that goes over the Kakabeka Falls. The fort was restored to its original condition and had numerous people in period clothing that talked about there jobs at that time, around 1815. There were also people working on trades like canoe making, blacksmithing, gun making, metal working, etc. Each of these folks would answer questions and provide information about their trade and what they had to do in that time of history. This would be a place you could spend many hours learning about the fur trade operation at Fort William.

I did get one more chance at the local fish last evening when I met Bernie at the mouth of a river as it flowed into Lake Superior. We fished from 7:00 to 9:30 with no luck but Bernie was going to stay a while longer so I hope he had better luck later in the evening. Our trip today will be about 190 miles on highways 11 & 17 and then just on highway 17 as the roads branch when we pass the Nipigon area. Our next stops will be at Marathon for one night, Wawa for four nights, and Sault Ste Marie for three nights. I am not sure on Internet availability so if you don't hear from us for a few days you won't have to worry. Until next time be safe.
