Stu & Tippy's Travels

This Blog will be used to document the travels of Stuart and Tippy Reid as we travel this beautiful country in our motorhome. We will hopefully be able to share our experiences in words and pictures and allow our friends and family to enjoy them with us.

New Mexico and Colorado

We enjoyed our time in Ruidoso and I got to play the Golf Club at the Rainmakers on Monday before we departed on Tuesday. I will post a couple of pictures above to give you some idea of the beauty of the course. We stayed in Las Vegas, NM on Tuesday and Wednesday nights before heading into Colorado on Thursday. We picked up a couple of things at Wal-Mart in Las Vegas and I did a little cleaning on the outside of the coach. Our site was very nice in Las Vegas, sorry no picture, with a wonderful view of the valley and mountains.

We had about a 260 mile drive to Colorado Springs on Thursday. We saw several antelope lounging near waterholes, especially in new Mexico, and had a pretty good pull up Raton Pass, 7400 feet, as we crossed into Colorado. I was able to play golf with my good friend Jim Magette while in Colorado Springs. We met part way to Denver, so Tippy could keep the car, and had breakfast before driving into the Denver area. The course is the new Colorado Golf Association course called Common Ground. The course was purchased from the Air Force Base and totally redone by Tom Doak. The course is very good especially for being open only since May. They have a short course, par three, for the kids and also will provide other instructional opportunities for juniors at the course. Jim, of course, took $6 from me but I went down fighting and halved the back nine after losing the front 3-1. I may still be a bit ahead in our matches but certainly not by much.

We went back to Jim's home so he could get cleaned up and to pick up his wife Lynn. We then drove down to Colorado Springs so I could get cleaned up and then we went to dinner at The Blue Star restaurant here in Colorado Springs. The food was quite good and the atmosphere quite "Artsy." After a wonderful evening they dropped us off at our coach and headed back for Littleton, CO where they live. Saturday was pretty rainy so we pretty much just hung out at the coach enjoying the rain and watching the U.S. Open.

We took a drive to the Garden of the Gods after Tippy returned from church. The area was very pretty and we had a good time for the afternoon. The rocks reminded us of the Red Rock Canyon area in las Vegas, NV. I spent the rest of the day watching the Open. Quite grueling for the players with all of the starts, stops, and delays. I was also able to get the coach windows cleaned in the morning so we are all ready to take off for Wyoming tomorrow. I hope you enjoy the pictures and will try to take more as we head north. Be safe.
