Red Bluff to Gold Beach
Well lets catch up a bit here. We are now at the Kimball Creek Bend RV Resort in Gold Beach, Oregon. We arrived here on Saturday afternoon after a wonderful drive through the mountains and forest on highway 199 from Grants Pass, OR to almost Crescent City, CA. We cut off on highway 197 just short of crescent City to catch highway 101 which goes north along the coast of Oregon. We will stay here until Thursday when we will drive north about 55 miles to Bandon, OR where we will meet Jerry & Jackie Wooldridge.
I believe my last update was from Red Bluff, CA, I’m not sure since I can’t check it since we don’t have Internet available here. It feels like I am missing one arm but the weather, views, and serenity make it worthwhile. Anyhow, our drive from Red Bluff to Grants Pass, OR was quite spectacular as we drove through the Cascade Range past Mount Shasta and finally into Oregon. The drive was somewhat curvy with lots of elevation changes but the coach handled it all very well. We had many terrific scenic views especially as we traveled past Lake Shasta. Needless to say we enjoyed the drive!
When we arrived in Grants Pass our new GPS was ready to take us right to our RV park but the city had other plans. They were working on the road we needed to turn on and the flagger told us to go about a mile, turn left, and we could get into the park from the other direction. Well we drove around for a while but the GPS couldn’t find any back entrance and after a bit we ended up at a dead end where they had closed the street at a railroad crossing. So it was stop the motorhome, unhook the car, get turned around and retrace our steps back to the original street. By this time they were done with their work and we could make our turn and we got right to the park. Turns out there is no other entrance as the park is also on a dead end road but we made it safely anyhow.
The park was quite nice even though the spaces were a little tight. Tippy did some shopping at an Albertson’s and at Wal-Mart before we left on Saturday. As I mentioned above the ride from Grants Pass to Gold Beach was beautiful and a little dicey in parts. There was a six mile stretch of road with lots of sharp turns with a very narrow road but fortunately the traffic was light and we just took our time and got through without incident.
We found our way back to the Kimball Creek Bend RV Resort, about 10 miles up the Rogue River from the ocean, and enjoyed the windy climbing road to the resort. Our new DirecTv receiver and Tippy’s replacement phone were at the desk waiting for us. After we got the coach set up I struggled with the receiver for a bit and finally got the old one out and the new one in. It seems to be working fine and we enjoyed the final round of the U.S. Open Championship without commercial interruption on Sunday. I thought Tiger would get it done but he just never got it started. I sure hope he can get his life back together and get back into his golf focus.
We got Tippy’s new phone activated, she washed the old one with a pair of slacks, so she is back on the airways. We plan to go to town today to get an Internet connection, do some shopping, and get some lunch. I will also try to get in a round of golf this afternoon if the weather stays as beautiful as it is this morning. There is a little nine hole course a few miles from the resort that is reported to be the most westerly course in the lower 48 states. They have two flags on each green and use different tees for each nine holes. I stopped by there the last time we were here but didn’t play. On Wednesday I am scheduled to go fishing but the outlook is grim. The fishing guide here at the resort, Toby, has been gone to play golf for a week because of the fishing situation. But I enjoy the fishing and catching is a bonus. I will try to get this posted today and get back to you again from Bandon with tge latest fishing and golfing updates. Until then enjoy the pics and be safe.
