Moab to Pagosa Springs, Colorado
On Sunday we had a 219 mile trip from Moab to Pagosa Springs which was very beautiful. We drove south oh Utah highway 191 to the town of Monticello where we switched to highway 491 which would take us to Cortez, Colorado. We had planned on stopping at a rest area just east of Cortez but unfortunately Charlie, our GPS voice, took us on a shortcut which missed Cortez and hit highway 160 several miles east of the rest area. Alex and Tippy weren't happy with me, or Charlie, but we finally found a place to stop about 20 miles from Durango. That first leg of the trip was about 137 miles and much more than I would usually drive at one sitting. The rest of the drive was very pretty especially when we got into the mountains east of Durango. We will stay here for four nights and then really head south through New Mexico with an overnight stop in Rio Rancho, where highway 550 meets Interstate 25, and then three nights in Las Cruces before moving into Texas for the final days of this wonderful summer trip.
Tomorrow I plan on playing golf at the Pagosa Springs Golf Club. The course has 27 holes and from what I saw today it is quite nice. We drove around a bit this morning to see downtown Pagosa Springs, a brief stop at the golf course, and a stop at City Market so Tippy could do a little shopping. This afternoon we had a carpet cleaning company clean the carpeting in the coach and they did a great job. Three months on the road had taken a toll on them. Well that pretty much catches us up to today. I will try to get some pictures at the golf course tomorrow and others around the area as we explore. Be safe.
