Back Home for a While
We had a good time in Temecula for five days with our friends Jackie and Jerry Wooldridge and Claire and Spike Jaimson. The rain cooperated with us and we got to play some golf, eat several wonderful meals, visit a few wineries, and spend time with our friends. We had a nice drive to Temecula on Saturday, February 12th, and got checked in and set up at the Pechanga RV Resort. We have stayed here several times before and it is a nice park and is convenient to all of the Temecula attractions.
Saturday evening we tried to find a restaurant in Old Town but the wait was over an hour everywhere we went so we went to a restaurant called "On the Border" in one of the malls. They served excellent Mexican food with a great chips and salsa appetizer. The salsa was expecially good with just the right zing. Everyone had their fill and we returned to the coach full and tired. On Sunday Tippy went to mass at a nice church in the area but the weather wasn't real good so it was a pretty quiet day. We met our friends Mac and Maria at the Sunday Brunch at Temecula Creek Inn and had a great time with them. The brunch was excellent, even had a make your own Bloody Mary station with all of the fixins and champagne at the table. The food was varied and excellent and we all left quite full again. Spike and Jerry went to hit some balls in the afternoon but had a hard time finding a driving range that was open. I guess they finally found the range at Temecu Hills open and got to practice for a while. We had a Ginn tournament Sunday evening and I think the gals were victorious, until we played a press hand, which we won, to get even. This would have been fine except the gals wanted to play another press hand and we were back on the losing side. Oh well, a good time was had by all and Alex enjoyed the extra company.
On monday we all played golf at the Red Hawk golf club and had a great day. It was carts on the paths only so we got a lot of walking in but the course was fun and the competition fierce. We played a best ball event with each guy partners with each gal. The best of the best balls were 67, 67, and 66 so it was pretty tight but yours truly and Claire ended up with the 66 and were declared the winners and took the pot to split. Monday night we went to Anthony's Italian restaurant for our Valentine's dinner. I found this restaurant when our friends Ray and Sandra Columbaro met us in Temecula a couple of years ago. The food was excellent and we found a couple of good wines that made the dinner even more special. Each of the gals were given a rose and we left full again.
The weatherman was predicting rain for Wednesday so the guys decided to play golf again on Tuesday at the Temecula Creek Inn. We had a great weather day and the course was dry enough that it was the 90 degree rule for the carts. Tuesday was the last day for my JC golf membership so we all got to play for $39 with free range balls. Claire and Jackie drove to a small town that Claire used to visit for church camp each summer as a child. It was up in the mountains a bit and a little colder. Tippy stayed at the coach with Alex and read, she didn't want to leave her for the five hours or so we would all be gone. Tuesday evening we grilled steaks and ate at our coach. Claire made a salad, Tippy made twice baked potatoes, and Jackie did green beans and desert. I don't know how we keep these trim figures the way we eat. :-)
Well the weatherman was wrong and Wednesday turned out to be the best day we had. We all went to Lumpy's BBQ sandwiches for lunch, mmmmmmm good. Tippy had a pulled pork sandwich and I had the pulled beef with the spicy sauce. We shared an order of french fries and an order of onion rings and left pretty full again. We then began a short wine tour and tasting. We visited four wineries, did some tasting at three of them, and ended up with a case of wine from various locations. We returned to the coaches for a deserved afternoon siesta. That evening we went to the Vera Cruz Fish House and had a terrific seafood meal. I enjoyed some Calamari steak that was excellent and everyone else also had great meals. I also had two oyster shooters for an appetizer and they were delicious.
Jerry and Jackie headed for Laughlin on Thursday for a golf event and the rest of us headed for home. We have a lot of stuff to do before we leave in March and we must get started. The drive home was good with light traffic and a nice weather day. Alex seems to enjoy the coach and the riding. She is getting bigger and getting up and down from the furniture is no longer a problem for her. When we came home from dinner on Wednesday evening she was sitting up on the front dash waiting for us. I will try to make another post before we leave, maybe after the yard sale. Come on by on March 5th if you want some good bargins. Be safe.
