Stu & Tippy's Travels

This Blog will be used to document the travels of Stuart and Tippy Reid as we travel this beautiful country in our motorhome. We will hopefully be able to share our experiences in words and pictures and allow our friends and family to enjoy them with us.

Mount Shasta

I dug up a couple of photos from last years trip as we drove through the Lake Shasta area. The area is too pretty to not have a couple of pictures to share.

Canyonville, Oregon

We had a wonderful drive from Red Bluff to Canyonville on Thursday. The drive through the Shasta Lake area is just spectacular! We stopped at a rest area shortly before we left California and had lunch and gave Alex a nice walk. We made a fuel stop after we hit Oregon, paid $4.32 per gallon in California, and was surprised to discover the price was only $4.28 per gallon. Boy these fuel companies really have us by the short hairs! Oh well, it is what it is and we are on the road. The weather here has been great - low 70's, sunny, and real cool evenings.

When we got to the & Feathers Resort we discovered our friends Mike and Patty Diehl were also here. It is such a small world. I guess the weather has been bad and they have slowed down their northern movement which allowed us to catch up with them. We had a couple of drinks on Thursday afternoon and got caught up all of what has been going on. I think we will be having dinner with them tonight, Saturday, and tomorrow as well.

I played golf yesterday at the Myrtle Creek G.C. about 10 miles north of here in the town of Myrtle Creek. The course was in wonderful condition and as you can see from the picture above there is lots of elevation change on literally every hole. I joined up with a fellow from Vancouver B.C. who was also staying at 7 Feathers and we had a great time and enjoyed the beautiful day. I was able to make one birdie, #17 a 170 yard par 3 where I hit it about 8 inches from the hole, probably any further away and I would have missed it as my putting was less than stellar today.

We will stay in today to watch the Open and do some coach cleaning. It will be interesting to see if McIlroy can keep it together this time. We will leave here on Monday and drive to Bandon, OR over on the coast where I will do a Golf Digest visit on the Old Macdonald course on Wednesday. Bandon Dunes will be hosting the Mens and Womens Public Links Championships on Old Macdonald and Bandon Trails the following week so I will hopefully see some of my old APL buddies while we are still in Bandon. Be safe.

From Williams to Barstow, CA to Agua Dulce to Chowchilla, to Red Bluff

Wow, where does that time go? We were just in Williams, Az and now we are in Red Bluff, CA and lots has happened in between so lets try to catch up a bit. We had a warm and windy drive from Williams to Barstow with a long climb from Needles to Barstow. We just took it easy and were able to make it up the grade without any problems. On Thursday we had a short, less than 100 mile, drive to our friends Walt and Jeri Karpinski's lovely home in Agua Dulce, CA. They were wonderful hosts and we truly enjoyed our visit. Walt grilled a tri-tip one night and the other we went out for Mexican food. In addition they cooked a marvelous breakfast to get us off to a good start on our trip to Chowchilla, CA.

On Friday Walt and I played golf at a course called Elkins Ranch and it was in Fillmore, CA. The course was very nice and we had a great time with two other gentlemen we joined on the course. Tippy and Jeri spent part of the day having lunch at the Getty Museum and looking about at the various displays. There were about five different buildings so they left some things for another day. Wev look forward to seeing Walt and Jeri again when they come to Mallard Creek later in July.

We had a pretty easy drive from Agua Dulce to Chowchilla. The Grapevine was pretty quiet on a Saturday and the temperature was cool so we didn't have any overheating problems. We stayed at a place called The lakes RV Resort and Golf. The golf course is called Pheasant Run and it was quite good and in great shape. The only trouble was it was to long for us at over 6300 yards, maybe we should have played the senior tees. Seems like I had to hit lots of woods to greens, especially on the back nine. Anyhow I managed an 84 with only one adjusted double bogey after a double hit and a three putt on the second hole. We met our friends Jim and Roilynn Stevens at the park. We met them last winter when we spent some time at Happy Trails in Surprise, AZ. They are friends of Mike and Patty Diehl. Jim has to see his doctor this week so they will stay at the park until they find out what the doctor has planned for him. We also saw Ron and Birdie Boudine, folks we met at Mallard Creek a couple of years ago and we seem to see them from time to time at various RV locations. We ended up playing golf with them on Sunday with their friend Chris from Fresno. Chris lost her husband in March so she is still putting the pieces together. She is a wonderful golfer and drives the ball as far as I do, if I hit it good. She is planning to visit Ron and Birdie at Mallard Creel later this summer.

We drove from Chowchilla to Red Bluff, CA on Monday and had a very enjoyable trip with cool temps and very little wind. I discovered a leak in the hydraulic system for our stabilizer jacks when we arrived and thus spent some time trying to find out how to fix the problem. The most difficult part was getting the cap off of the reservoir for the fluid but I finally managed and was able to add the proper fluid to make the jacks work properly. The main problem, the leak, still persists but fixing that is beyond my ability.

Tomorrow we will drive into Oregon and stay at the Seven Feathers RV Resort for four nights. We have canceled two day trip over to Mcarthur to play golf at a course in Falls River. Now we can do that at some future date. More later from Oregon. Be safe and enjoy the pics.
