Stu & Tippy's Travels

This Blog will be used to document the travels of Stuart and Tippy Reid as we travel this beautiful country in our motorhome. We will hopefully be able to share our experiences in words and pictures and allow our friends and family to enjoy them with us.

Branson to LaSalle

Howdy Y'all,
We are now in LaSalle, Illinois poised to see some of our friends starting tomorrow at the APL Championship in Wheaton, IL. We saw three more shows in Branson since our last post. the first was Mike Walker who is a singer, president, cartoon character, etc. impersonator. His show was very entertaining but not up to par due to a problem throat. On Friday night we saw the Shoji Tabuchi show and it was fantastic! There was a very large cast and many different segments to the show. Shoji wore about 12 different jackets as you can see from the pictures below.

On Saturday afternoon we saw the Tony Roi "Elvis Experience." This show was very good and Tony has the look and sound of Elvis. He also sang some of his own songs and he has a great voice in his own right. Our final show was Pierce Arrow on Saturday evening. This is a group of five singers plus two gals and a four piece band. They sing lots of country, gospel, and contempory songs and seem to be truly warm and nice young people. We did enjoy this show.

Sunday morning Tippy went to mass while I got the coach ready to travel. We had a short, 140 mile, drive from Branson to the Bennett Springs State Park in Lebanon, MO. The park was beautiful and our campsite was perfect! There is a giant spring in the park that feeds a creek that flows to a nearby river. There is also a fish hatchery and they keep the creek nicely stocked with trout. We want to return sometime for a longer stay and some fly fishing on the creek.

On Monday we traveled about 170 miles to Litchfield, IL and stayed at a small campground called Kamper Kompanion. This was a very nice park and we enjoyed staying there. We ventured into the town of Litchfield that evening for a Chinese buffet that was excellent! On Tuesday we traveled to LaSalle, IL, about 180 miles, and got settled in the LaSalle KOA. It is a small park but we have a good long pull through and we are very comfortable for our two night stay.

My new friend, Bernie Egan, stopped by and we talked from about 5:00 to after 9:00. It was amazing how the conversation just continued as we talked about ourlives and the things we liked to do. I met Bernie on the Internet while trying to get some fishing information for our time in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Bernie responded since he spends many weeks a year in the area and was willing to share some of his fishing information with me. We started to communicate by e-mail, then a phone call or two, and finally we got to meet here yesterday. He has invited me to fish with him while we are in the Thunder Bay area and has helped us obtain a place to park the motorhome while we are in that area. I am quite excited about the fishing possibilities that he has discussed with me.

Today we just hung out in the AM and then went to Duffy's Tavern, a local hot spot in Utica, IL, and enjoyed a wonderful lunch and a beer. They have 16 different beers on tap, I had a Harp, and Tippy tried the new Miller Chill which is a light beer with lime and salt flavors. We had a half order of onion rings which were wonderful and more than we needed. Tippy had the Duffy Burger and I has the Mushroom Swiss burger and both were fantastic! We left full and returned home to take a nap. Tonight we are going to grill outside
