Stu & Tippy's Travels

This Blog will be used to document the travels of Stuart and Tippy Reid as we travel this beautiful country in our motorhome. We will hopefully be able to share our experiences in words and pictures and allow our friends and family to enjoy them with us.

Fort Collins, Colorado

We are currently at the Fort Collins North KOA for an overnight stay. This park is about 18 miles south of Wyoming where we will head tomorrow on our way to Casper, WY. We had a great, but short, visit with our friends Jim & Lyn in Littleton, CO. They were in Kansas City for a wedding over the weekend and Jim flew home on Sunday morning and Lyn, and their daughter Jennifer, returned on Monday. We arrived at Jim's home almost simultaneously with Jim. I had just started to unhook the car when he pulled in.

Jim and I drove out to the Murphy Creek Golf Course which will be the site of the 2008 USGA Amateur Public Links Championship in July and also where he held the Sectional Qualifier for Colorado on Monday & Tuesday. We drove around to look at the course, I didn't feel like playing after driving the coach, so we just looked. The course is a links type layout with very few trees. I kidded Jim that the only shade I had seen was while driving through a tunnel on the front nine. The course is really very good and will play over 7400 yards to a par of 71. They will play one par four at 535 yards, the longest in any USGA event, ever.

I helped Jim on Monday, 144 players in two waves at 7:30 & 12:30. We lefty his home at 5:30 am and returned at 8:30 pm for an easy 15 hour day. Jim had several folks from the Colorado Golf Association assisting with conducting the qualifying so even though it was a long day it was a good one. Jim is a real up and comer in the golf arena. He has worked the USGA Senior Open Championship the last two years and should be starting the US Open very soon. He also helps with NCAA Regional and National Championships and will be conducting one of the Regionals himself next year. He is also on the APL Committee and even finds a little time to fly for United Air Lines.

Well tomorrow we are off for Wyoming and points north. We have been enjoying the cool evenings the last several days. It is great to be able to sit out in the evening to enjoy the views and maybe a cocktail as well. More later from Wyoming. Stay tuned and be safe.
