Stu & Tippy's Travels

This Blog will be used to document the travels of Stuart and Tippy Reid as we travel this beautiful country in our motorhome. We will hopefully be able to share our experiences in words and pictures and allow our friends and family to enjoy them with us.

Niagara Falls, ON

As you can see from the pictures below the sights are wonderful here in Niagara Falls. We have visited behind the falls, the Maid of the Mist, and took a tour of the area along the gorge. Jerry and I found time to play two rounds of golf at The legends and The Whirlpool G.C. Both were quite excellent! We took the our on Thursday afternoon, after golf, and then went to a wonderful Italian restaurant for dinner on Thursday evening.

Today Jerry and I played golf at Whirlpool and then we all went to lunch at the revolving restaurant in the Skylon Tower. The food was good but the service was very poor as we had to wait over 30 minutes from our soup to our entree. The views made it very bearable though and allowed us to see the falls twice during our lunch. Tonight, and this afternoon, we watched the PGA Championship and then had cocktails, cheese squares, and other snacks to finish our food for the day.

Tomorrow, Saturday, we will drive to Niagara on the Lake to look about and have lunch then on Sunday we will be on our way back into the states. I will do an update tomorrow upon our return from our adventure, in the mean time be safe and enjoy.

Leaving Barrie

The pictures below are from the Settlers' Ghost Golf Course which was only about five minutes from our RV park. The course was only about 6600 yards from the back tees but it was also pretty hilly. Guy and I played from the blue tees, about 6300 yards, and that was perfect for us. We both shot 43 on the front, me with two doubles. and then I shot 40 on the back and Guy shot a nifty 35. The back nine had three par 3's, three par 4's, and three par 5's. I really like that split and variety in holes.

Monday night Tippy and I went to the restaurant at Settlers' Ghost and had a wonderful meal. Tippy had a seafood pasta with an outstanding sauce and I had a halibut dinner that was quite delightful. On Tuesday we took the coach to Freightliner for service, took Alex to the groomer, and Tippy and I went shopping and out to lunch. They finished the coach on time and we picked Alex up at 1:30 and then the coach and returned to the RV park before 2:30.

Wednesday morning we had a pancake breakfast at the KOA and then departed to Niagara Falls. We had a short 140 mile drive to Niagara Falls but we had to get through the Toronto traffic which wasn't really too bad. We had two areas of slow down stop and go but we finally got through it and on our way. From the "Its a small world" file as we drove down the road, about 40 miles from Niagara Falls, we come up on Jerry and Jackie in their motorhome. I told Tippy that looks like them up there and sure enough we passed them and then talked to them on the CB.

We all got settled at the KOA here in Niagara Falls (NF) and the girls went out to see about a pedicure. Well they came back in a couple of hours and had already completed the pedicures. I have arranged for Jerry and I to play golf at two nice courses here in NF and we will play tomorrow and Friday mornings. Tomorrow we play a course called the Legends and Friday the Whirlpool G.C. We will then do some touring in the afternoon and go out to dinner tomorrow night, I am told.

Tonight we will grill steaks and have corn we bought in Barrie. The corn was actually picked while we waited in the farm store. They also had tomatoes that are delicious! I guess I had better shuck the corn so more later. Be safe.

Barrie, Ontario

We left Sturgeon Falls on Thursday and had enjoyable drive to Barrie, about 180 miles. We made one stop to stretch and walk Alex but couldn't find another place to stop so we drove right to the RV Park. We have a great site here, gigantic cement pad for the coach and the patio. The only problem is we get the afternoon sun on the patio side so we have been having cocktails on the other side in the shade of the coach.

We drove around the area on Thursday afternoon and into the town of Penetanguishene – Pen-tan-goo-shene. This town is right on Georgian Bay, off of Lake Huron, was quite beautiful and the waterfront was very nice. We looked into taking a cruise through the 30,000 islands of the bay and then had lunch at the Dock Lunch. We decided not to take the cruise due to its length and the heat, now in the high 80’s.

On Friday we went into Barrie and went to the theatre to see Bourne Ultimatum. We both enjoyed the show and all of the action! There were several chase scenes that were pretty cool and exciting! Saturday we just stayed around the coach and relaxed. We both read books, had lunch, and just enjoyed a great day. Today, Sunday, I played golf with a fellow I met here at the park, Guy LeBlanc, and Tippy went to Mass in Barrie. Guy and I were able to take $4 from his friends and we really had a good time playing and joking our way around the course.

Guy and I will play golf again tomorrow at a course near the RV park called Settler’s Ghost. As we drove to the course today Guy pointed out a house that belonged to a friend of his that caddied on the PGA Tour. When I asked him who he caddied for he said, Craig Barlow! Can you imagine, someone that I have known since he started high school.

We will take the coach in on Tuesday for service, take Alex for grooming, and we will go shopping. On Wednesday we will travel to Niagara Falls where we will meet our friends Jackie and Jerry Wooldridge. We hope to share some activities with them and catch up on Nevada news. Enjoy the pics below from our golf today and be safe.
