Stu & Tippy's Travels

This Blog will be used to document the travels of Stuart and Tippy Reid as we travel this beautiful country in our motorhome. We will hopefully be able to share our experiences in words and pictures and allow our friends and family to enjoy them with us.

Tippy and Alex enjoying the beach

On the beach

South Padre Island

We had a great trip to South Padre Island yesterday. We were able to drive right on the beach as you can see from the pictures. You could even take a motorhome onto the beach if you wanted. There was one motorhome and one 5th wheel on the beach while we were there. The causeway is about a 25 mile trip from our RV Park but it was a good road and an interesting drive. The causeway itself was fun and it took us right into the small town at the tip of South Padre Island. We drove through town; the beach area is entirely built up with only occasional beach accesses available. We saw lots of condos and hotels and other shops and businesses. The strange thing was there were very few people around so I guess it is more of a summer area when folks can enjoy water sports.

We drove north on the island to a park that allowed you access to the beach with your autos and we drove up and down the beach, watched some folks surf fishing, and parked to have a picnic on the beach. At one point we had the windows partially open and Tippy tossed a piece of food to a seagull that was on the ground outside of the car. Instantly there were about 20 seagulls flying toward the car and Tippy was afraid they were coming into the car! Fortunately they didn’t enter the car but it was like a scene from “The Birds.”

We sat out for a while in the afternoon and then went to CiCi’s for their pizza buffet. We ate our fill and then some but enjoyed every mouthful. We especially like some of their desert pizzas. We are just relaxing today and getting ready to travel to San Antonio tomorrow. More from there, be safe.
