Stu & Tippy's Travels

This Blog will be used to document the travels of Stuart and Tippy Reid as we travel this beautiful country in our motorhome. We will hopefully be able to share our experiences in words and pictures and allow our friends and family to enjoy them with us.

McCall - August 12th

We continue to enjoy wonderful weather and a terrific time with our friends here in McCall. I have now played four different golf courses and they are all very good to excellent. The McCall Golf Course is a 27-hole facility that is truly beautiful as it plays thru the forest and meadows on the outskirts of town. I have played the Aspen nine once and the Cedar nine five times. They have had tournaments on two of the days we have played which put us on the Cedar nine twice each day. This is the newest nine and is pretty tight in several places. I hope to play the Birch nine on Monday which will be the last game while everyone is still here.

Tippy is doing a little better. She had a bee sting a couple of days ago and her eye swelled shut by morning. We went to the emergency room and they told her to take Benadryl and to ice it frequently. The swelling is about gone now and a return visit to the clinic provided her with a prescription for some Allegra which seemed to help and a prescription for additional physical therapy for her back pain. We continue to hope she will improve so she can enjoy our travels to the fullest.

Jerry, Hoot, and I went to Donnelly and played the Tamarack Golf Club which is part of a huge real estate and sports complex. It has been in the making for many years but seems to be getting off the ground at this time. I did a Golf Digest visit here and they were nice enough to invite all three of us to a complimentary round, saving us $125 each. The course was very pretty and we had a great time. There are many holes that have views of Cascade Lake and all holes had a view of the forest and mountains that form the back drop for the west side of the property.

We have had several memorable meals outside this week and the food has been outstanding! It sure is enjoyable sitting out for cocktails and conversation in the evening and then sitting down to a community dinner. Everyone pitches in with part of the meal and we just throw the plates away when we are finished. As you can easily tell from the dinner picture everyone is full and happy.

I went to play the Whitetail Golf Club on Thursday afternoon on a Golf Digest visit. They wouldn’t allow me to bring a guest, unless they paid the $145 resort fee. This club has a small membership and allows resort guests to play for the $145 fee. They get very little play, maybe four-five groups a day, so the course stays in great condition. The greens are big and putt very true with a reasonable speed of around 9-9.5 on the Stimp meter.

There is a wooden boat parade on the water at the lake this afternoon and some of the folks are driving to Cascade for a rodeo, car and motorcycle show, and finally a movie in the evening. We will skip the trip to Cascade but will attend the boat parade and have a quiet cookout this evening.

Most of the folks will be leaving early next week and that will leave us here with Rick and Carla until the 25th when they depart and leave us alone until the end of the month. We will meet up again with Jackie and Jerry in Coeur d’Alene and travel with them through Gunnison.

I am going to look into some fishing later next week. The gentleman that is staying next to us says there is lots of good fly fishing in the area on small lakes and on the North Fork of the Payette River. I will visit the Idaho Angler Fly Shop to get some specific information and find out the patterns and colors that seem to be effective. I will give you an update on this part of the adventure next week so stay tuned. Until the next time enjoy the pictures and be safe.
