As I mentioned in the last post we arrived safely in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday, except for Mike and Patty, and have nice ocean front sites. We had to have a turn signal problem solved, short, before leaving Savannah, which detained us until noon. Mike and Patty had to have a transfer switch replaced and unfortunately the part didn't arrive until 3:00 so they had to stay overnight and didn't join us until Thursday afternoon. Jackie and Jerry did hamburgers for dinner and we enjoyed a quiet evening at home at least until the fireworks started. The park does not allow fireworks but they were shot off on the beach, until way after 11:00. They didn't scare Alex like they did Abbey but she was awakened every time a loud one went off.
On Thursday Jerry and I played a course in Pawley's Island called Caledonia golf club. The course was very good and we had a good day except for the fact that Jerry took my money. Mike and Patty had arrived when we returned to the park so we planned on dinner at the Captain Charles Seafood Buffet. The buffet is a little pricey, $24.99, but the food is outstanding and the variety unmatched. We all got full and headed back to the park for more fireworks and to try and get some sleep. I must mention that the park rents golf carts for the folks to use to get to the beach and back and to the various activities within the park. With over 1,400 spots the park is big and has a pool, lazy river water feature, miniature golf, paddle boats, fishing, a general store, etc. So anyhow, they rent these golf carts to the people and it is like a parade all day and all night. Being on the ocean our site was on the main drag, last street before the dunes, so all of the carts continued to travel by our site. It was quite amazing to watch the people, young and old, as they went up and down the road in the carts, on bicycle, or on foot. The teenagers were definitely trolling for company and it was pretty humorous to watch.
Jerry, Mike, and I played golf on Friday and again on Saturday at the Wild Wing Plantation. This was the last place our group from home played about three or four years ago. We played the Avocet course on Friday and the Hummingbird on Saturday. I continue to struggle with my putting, 20 putts on the front nine on Saturday, but it is enjoyable to share time with our friends. Jackie did a brisquit for dinner on Friday with garlic mashed potatoes and sweet corn and we grilled steaks on Saturday except for Mike and Patty who went for Italian.
We had a nice drive on "Red Roads" on Sunday as we made our way to Pinehurst. The park is great and we even get satellite TV in spite of the trees. We went into the Village for a dinner at Dugan's Pub last night and enjoyed fish and chips. Today we will go to the course and acclimate ourselves to the surroundings and maybe even stop by the merchandise tent to get an early look at what is available. Mike and Patty's friends Mac and Maria will fly in on Wednesday to join us for the rest of the week and our friends Ray and Sandra should be here to spend Thursday evening with us.
