Stu & Tippy's Travels

This Blog will be used to document the travels of Stuart and Tippy Reid as we travel this beautiful country in our motorhome. We will hopefully be able to share our experiences in words and pictures and allow our friends and family to enjoy them with us.

Tree in full color in Walmart parking lot

Bar Harbor to Littleton, MA

We have had a great few days as we traveled down to Littleton, MA. On Monday we traveled down highway 1 from Ellsworth, ME to Portland, ME. We had many glimpses of the ocean and bays and many other wonderful sights as well. The drive was really incredible and the traffic wasn't bad either. We had an okay spot at the Bayley's Camping resort in Scarborough, ME. The park was almost closed up as the "season" was past but we found plenty to do during our short stay. On Tuesday we took a drive down the coast on a small coast highway - ME 9. We drove as far as Kennebunkport where we stopped to do some shopping and to get an ice cream cone. We didn't find the Bush compound but we did see many lovely homes.

On Wednesday we continued our road home with a short 106 mile jaunt out of Maine, across a corner of New Hampshire, and into Massachusetts. We are now staying at the Minuteman Camping resort which is about 40 miles from downtown Boston, just off the I-495 loop. We drove around a bit yesterday and may go to dinner tonight. The colors here are turning but slowly. All of the foliage reports we have seen indicate that the fall color change is about two weeks behind the normal schedule. Even though, we have seen many beautiful trees just not the overall color we were expecting.

Tomorrow we are off to Rhode Island for our first visit to that state and then on for a first visit to Connecticut on Sunday. From there we head to Pennsylvania with an overnight stop in New Jersey.

I have posted a picture of a pretty tree that was in a Walmart parking lot and also a picture of our coach at our site here at the Minuteman Camping Resort. More later, be safe.

Enjoying the Bar Harbor area of Maine

We have now been in the Bar Harbor area for ten days and wish we could stay for ten more. The area is very pretty and the views are truly special! We have been playing golf, eating out, playing miniature golf, touring the Acadia National Park, enjoying campfires and the discussions that ensue, and did I mention eating. The weather has been marvelous with temps along the coast in the upper 60's during the day and at night down in the lower 40's. Inland the temps have been in the 70's recently which has been great for golf.

We have gone out for whole Maine lobster on two occasions and I bet a third time tonight. The first time we ordered a regular lobster dinner that came with about a 1.25# lobster and it really wasn't enough meat for all of the work. The second time we went to a place where you choose your own lobster from the tank and any side dishes you wish. I chose a 3# beauty and was way full by the time dinner was over. I added 2'#s of Mussels and they were delicious as well. The lobster was a little messy to eat, should have had the camera, but the sweet meat was well worth the effort. I will bring my camera tonight and get some good "lobster shots."

With sadness we will be departing tomorrow and saying goodbye to our friends the Diehl's and Wooldridge's at least for a while. We have had a great time with them as we have enjoyed the Bar Harbor area. They are heading west to Vermont and will stay at Sugar Ridge where we stayed a few weeks ago. It is a nice park and the leaves should be spectacular now, hopefully. The change of color is certainly happening every day but we really haven't seen the total change we had expected. It seems the change will be a week or two later this year for whatever reason.

We will drive south and stay in Maine for two more nights at a park on the coast below Portland, in a town called Scarborough. From there we go to Rhode Island, Connecticut, Delaware, and Maryland before we start to head west and home. We will make stops to see my brothers in Tennessee and Georgia before the final run for Texas. The trip has been really super but we are starting to think about home. Tippy has been having some back pain for the past couple of weeks but she is starting to perk up a bit so we will continue the trip as planned. For a couple of days we were considering just heading straight for home but again, it doesn't look like we will have to do that now.

Enjoy the pictures below and be safe.
