My Oh My, where does the time go?
We made it back home from our summer trip on the 4th of September only to leave again on September 15th to go to Fredericksburg, Texas for an Alfa Rally. We had a good time with those folks which included several wonderful meals, a couple of golf outings, and the usual great fellowship that keeps us going with this group. At the conclusion of the rally we drove to Kerrville, Texas, only about 30 miles, where we stayed for a week to enjoy the sights and take in a movie or two. We stayed at the Buckhorn Lake RV Resort which is very nice and also convenient to Kerrville. I also play a round of golf at Comanche Trace Golf Club which is a private club that has recently opened a third nine holes. The new nine was designed by Morrish & Co. and was quite nice. The original 18 holes was designed by Tom Kite and was also nice but not to the quality of the new nine.
Tippy and I did get to a couple of movies, a few meals out, and lots of relaxation. After our week in Kerrville we headed back to Fredericksburg to celebrate Oktoberfest. We met some new friends, Randall & Connie Whitaker, at the KOA and shared some of the events with them. Randall is my barber in Texas and Connie does Tippy's wigs. They also attend church at St. Barnard's with Tippy. They have gone to Oktoberfest for many years and they were kind enough to show us around and got us to the best food and drink that was available. We enjoyed ourselves, enjoyed the great Umpahhh music, and enjoyed spending time with Randall & Connie. We sat out and talked with them a few evenings and watched a Texas football game together.
We came home on October 6th and been here ever since, for a whole month. (ha, ha) We have been doing a little catch up around the house and I have been working on wood turning projects. Oops, I forgot we went to Waco for four days so I could attend a woodturning symposium. I enjoyed the demonstrations and learned a lot. They had lots of demonstrations each day, Friday - Sunday, so I tried to choosw the ones that would benefit me the most. I learned how to make wooden spinning tops for the kids, bottle stoppers for the adults, and segmented bowls for everyone to enjoy. I am still working on the latter as I need more equipment and tools so I can cut the segments accurately. I hope to complete a project before Thanksgiving.
We will drive up to Arlington on the 19th of November to visit David and his family and to help celebrate Maryn's birthday. I will also spend some time with a friend of John's, Ray Lanham, that is also a wood turner, and lives in Duncanville which isn't very far from where we stay in Arlington. Ray is truly an artist with wood and segmented projects and I hope to learn lots from him on my visit. The next weekend everyone will come to our place for Thanksgiving to enjoy good food and hang out together for a few days. We don't seem to get enough time with John, Christine, & Florence due to the distance they are from us but then we don't seem to get enough of David's family either. I guess it is just hard to work everything into all of the busy lives so we will enjoy what we get and be happy.
