A week at the beach

We have just about completed our week here at Port Aransas, we leave tomorrow. The weather was fine when we arrived on Monday, I played golf on Tuesday, and then the wind, rain, and cold temperatures began on Wednesday. We were able to drive around a bit, get out for a few great meals, and drive on the beach but walking around was out of the question. The past couple of days the morning chill factor has been in the low 30's and Alex and I have both been wearing coats for our morning walk to the beach. The park here is real nice and we have a great site except we haven't been able to enjoy the outside amenities. Alex and I walk to the beach every morning to watch the surf. The park has an access walkway that you take over the dunes and down to the beach. There are also a couple of benches at the top where you can sit and be mesmerized by the waves.
They allow you to drive on the beach and there are many access points. I would guess that there is about 10 miles of beach that is drivable and for $12 you can get a permit that allows you to park on the beach for a year. You can even take an RV on the beach and stay in it if you wish. The park is one of those ownership parks and they have a couple of small ponds that are surrounded by RV sites. It seems that about 3/4 of the sites are designed for 5th wheels and the rest for motorhomes. The difference being the location of the hook-ups to provide a view of the pond. The dunes you see in front of our site, beyond the pond, are protected and the Gulf of Mexico is just to the other side. You can't walk or ride a vehicle on the dunes and there is only limited access across the dunes.
Well, to sum things up, it wasn't great here, mostly due to the weather, but we made lemonade anyhow. We had a couple of great reading days, I did get in a round of golf, and I was able to down a couple of dozen Oysters on the half-shell. We head for Spring, Texas tomorrow which is the last stop for us before home. There is a new RV Resort there called Rayford Crossing that we want to visit and there are shopping opportunities nearby so we can stock up on stuff before heading home. Our next trip will be another Alfa Rally in early March in Durant, Oklahoma. We hope to visit the kids in Keller on the way. Be safe.
